Dancing Flower
Dancing Flower is an interactive design stimulating flower blooming. Composed of thousands of movable "petals", it blooms when visitors come close and shrinks back to its normal shape when people step back. The aim of this design is to promote a new way of interaction between visitors, and visitors with exhibitions.

<Inspiration>
“……It is becoming increasingly common for designers to devise ways to incorporate visitors into the exhibition, not only for themselves, but for other visitors as well……”
—— John H. Falk, Lynn D. Dierking
Learning from Museums
While currently, artworks are separated with visitors, so do visitors with each other.

<Design>

We got inspiration from mimosa, whose leaves close when got touched. The process of a bud slowly blooming to a flower is another reference.
PETAL
Good elasticity: Hollowed wood veneer is easy to be shaped.
Perfect imitation of leave & flower shape: It imitates the shape of leaf and flower petal shape very well. When it got bent, the process of blooming can be easily shown.

MEMORY ALLOY
At high temperature the alloy can be turned into many shapes,thus we use it as the bone to support the whole work. In the low temperature, alloy can be stretched, but when reheated, it will remember its original shape, and change back.

SENSOR
We testified several sensors and decided on IR sensors.
