
Monument Ancient Future
Monument Ancient Future is a VR experience built within in Unity. Players could walk in the space in first-person view to explore the connection between the ancient and the future.
A Unity game-based development that the player plays in a first-person view to explore the connection between the ancient and the future. The structure borrows ideas from space design of Monument Valley.

01 Ideation
It’s quite interesting to know that QIAN XUESEN, the Chinese mathematician, cyberneticist, aerospace engineer, named the idea of Meta as “LINGJING” in a letter to his friend, which means Ethereal Realm in Chinese over 30 years ago. There is a connection between the past and the future, the nature and the human-made, the universe and the metaverse. We hope to show such an idea of CONNECTION in this design.

02 Steps
Build Model
We built a model of 4 platforms connected by pathways Some of the models are downloaded from the open-resource model libraries, then we re-edited them to make the scene. We focused on different themes for each platform: ancient relics, ancient Japan, ancient Chinese, future, and built models accordingly.
Design Interaction
The idea of the project is CONNECTION. From each platform, the player can walk to, or be teleported to the other platforms following the hints. At each platform, music, video or special effects will be triggered following the steps of the player.

The game shall be played in a first-person view. For each of the platforms, there are 3 teleports that could send the player to the other 3 platforms one-on-one. I also wrote scripts to trigger some special effects along with the player.
03 Delivery
Space A: Budda head of the ancient time
This is the first space where the player starts from. It represents the ancient time. The player can either bump into the 3 spheres to be teleported to different other 3 spaces, or walk to explore.
Space B - Ancient Japan
The next space is ancient Japan, where we included representative elements including a paper umbrella and a Japanese folding screen. Again, users can either choose to be teleported or walk to explore. Music and particles will be triggered at certain spot.
Space C: Ancient China
The third space is ancient China, where we put a part of traditional Chinese architecture here as doors to teleport, and included dragon textures together with sculptures from the Tang Dynasty.
Space D: Meta Future
The last space is the future meta-themed stage. All four spaces are connected through stairs & platforms and teleport spots.
We’ve never been so closely connected with both, the past and the future. Meta provides an innovative while natural way for us to enjoy this connection. We see more, get more, and feel that we are in a community.
