This is the design details of the Video Editing Template, feature 02 of Dreaming Elf. I lead the design of this feature mainly by collaborating with engineers.

01 EasyCut: A Novice-Friendly Video Editing App

02 Problem

1. Normal users find it difficult to produce high-quality videos without professional video editing skills

2. To produce well-made videos, users have to jump out to use editing tools and back again to post in Tiktok

03 The Chance

There were successful cases of mini-game in TikTok connecting directly with EasyCut video templates.

3. Ideation

I led the cooperation with EasyCut — a video editing app by Tiktok company. I collaborated with product operations to organize video template creators to create templates for Dreaming Elf.

4. Flow

Then I worked with engineers in structuring the page flow so that users of Dreaming Elf can use these templates to edit videos directly in TikTok instead of jumping out to EasyCut.

5. Paper Prototype

I made a simple paper prototype to show the design idea, brought it to the weekly product meeting to discuss with engineers and designers, and presented it to the Head of Product Manager.

6. Wireframes

The wireframe is quite straightforward for this feature, but the backend is technically challenging. The engineering team finished multiple rounds of API testing to make sure the templates get called across apps.
